So after this season of the wdl has concluded I figured its worth a revisit to my old tier list and shift the players around based on how they played in the wdl.

I still haven't included captain's skill levels because that would be unsportsmanlike

why?

We have decided to remove maps that allow for flags to be intentionally or unintentionally dropped in a spot that cannot be reached by another player.  Since the flag return timer is set to 60 seconds and matches are only 7 minutes this could lead to very boring and drawn out game play.  We understand some may not like the maps that are removed from this competition however we feel it was the best choice to make this tournament as fun as possible.

ah okay my bad i thought the maps were removed because people didn't like them or something.

MANUAL RETURNS

Honestly manual returns own. I'd run a single manual returns tournament just to do it

Teams should be limited to 60 seconds or something of holding their own flag before it gets returned. It would make games a little less of a snoozefest.

is there a rulebook on manual returns somewhere? im interested with this concept of ctf

I mean i agree with you Ralphis I like the fact that there's lots of variety in the map pack I'm all for it and it's the reason why I don't like 31 and think it should just be thrown out. Not only does it emphasize singular player 1v1 skill but it does so in such a shitty manner that other maps have already perfected the concept of. Take bad moon, or generic gray, or ralphis's magical ice forts. All of these maps are maps that are frag heavy and focus more on how strong each player is in their position rather than how the team works as a singular unit. These maps pull off the concept that map31 tries to pull off much more effectively because they have A REASON for having flags in the map. Map31 has zero strategy, zero brain play, zero teamwork, and we already have lots of maps that flow just like it (Charon orbit, ralphis's magical ice forts, generic gray etc...) it's a fucking shit map not because I don't like the way it plays or the way it's laid out or it's ssg spawn mania, it's a shit map because it has no place in ctf, it's just tdm with flags and nothing more. At least map01 has some depth and complexity to it like flag pickups and deciding on whether to run out with just a shotgun or with a super shotgun depending on the situation, but map31 doesn't even have that. It's a boring uninteresting 10 minute piss break for most spectators and it's not just me complaining about it. Otherwise I do like the introduction of maps like toxic refineries II and bad moon they were fun and had new interesting game styles to try out, even if some might consider boring they brought something new to the wdl mappack(UNLIKE MAP31 COUGH).

Also zakken I change my mind 4 teams seems reasonable I had to think about it for a while but your points alongside ralphis's have convinced me.

Infer is technically new to the WDL, but he's been playing competitively for nearly as long as I have. He also played in the last IDL season's MasterBowl. I think the rookie of the year award should go to somebody who's actually relatively new to this side of competition, like Cartel or Razor. But either way is fine by me!

Cartel was around for much longer than I have been in the competitive ctf scene I only started after I joined a3 about a year ago (summer of 2016)

Franchising: nice bones doesn't know how to not draft kalfoxis shadowfox on his team and gets so upset that he didn't have a proper third that he wants the system to play to his rules horrible idea

Season map voting: yeah this is cool I'd support it nice

Expanding mappack: I don't think expanding the map pack is the issue here(while that's a good idea in my opinion) I think the bigger issue is the actual maps like Isolation was taken out in favor of Bad Moon and 31 IS STILL IN THE PACK WHY I think that adding more maps like bad moon are a great idea but they should replace maps that don't fit with the idea of TEAMWORK and COORDINATION because ctf is not supposed to be 3v3 tdm with a flag in each base COUGH 31 COUGH but rather a gamemode in which teamwork should play a bigger role than who has ammar and edd 300 frags blindfolded tier players on their team for Defence

5 player teams: I actually support denzoa's suggestion, the 4th player usually does just kinda sit there collecting dust most of the time I don't think that 4 ppl is necessary oh well ur teammate missed a match? Just reschedule like what literally every single other team did over the  quarterfinals and semifinals weeks

meanwhile avc is making his debut as a professional Atlanta rapper giving dem the practice advantage as well as the ingame advantage. Dem takes it in 6 rounds 3-2-1(one is a tie)

TKV vs SUC

both maps are maps that tkv is comfortable playing with meanwhile SUC's only strength comes from their homefield which tkv has shown to be more than capable of playing on. TKV in 5 3-1-1(one tie)

TPT vs TKV

I don't mean to be a debbie downer but im saddened that we didn't find a diff homefield for us nonetheless I hope we can adapt and I feel very confident in the map08 matches as I think that Tai's wise experience on this map alongside d'sparil's clearing out mid fragging style with my super "im good at 08" style running will seal the deal. Not sure how either team sizes up on map02 but it will be interesting to see the match play out :) Also jake is TKV's power player for map08 and I don't see him being able to handle 3 positions at the same time. if he D's TKV's O power is weakened, if jake runs then their D is hampered.

DEM vs GPS

On paper both of these teams look very evenly matched however my gut is telling me to go with DEM simply because of the fact that everybody on dem seems to just walk through everything I throw at them. And this isn't a personal complaint, I've talked to multiple people about this and they all agree with me that for some reason, Rude, turSKA and their merry gang take just a fraction of the damage that anyone else would take. Now on paper ignoring these ammar shields, GPS would seem to have the upper hand with overall player skill level and their map playing extremely well to Alt-Stab's strengths however I just don't see GPS being able to land shots consistently on DEM, and what would be a crucial save right before DEM captures the game winning flag could turn into a measly 15 dmg shot from point blank, letting DEM walk flag after flag into their own base.
