2
World Doom League FFA Tournament Spring 2018
Players: 24+
Stages: 3 (Qualifying Round, Losers Bracket, FFA Megacup)
Date: Saturday, April 28th, 2018

The objective of the tournament is to make it to the FFA Megacup through a series of stages, which begin with the Qualifying Round. The top 8 players at the end of the Qualifying Round will advance to the Megacup, while the remaining 16 will battle in the Losers Bracket. Only the top 6 players will make it out of the Losers Bracket and into the Megacup, meaning 10 players get eliminated. In the Megacup, 14 players will battle in a 10-map, 4-round series, with each round eliminating players until the final 4 maps. The top 8 will then play 4 maps, and the player with the highest accumulated frags at the completion of the tournament will be crowned the winner.

QUALIFYING ROUND

The qualifying round will consist of 4 separate groups of 6-player FFA. Each group will play through 4 maps, at the end of which the 2 players with the most accumulated frags will advance and earn their spot in the Megacup. The remaining 4 in each group will get a second chance to make it to the Megacup through the Losers Bracket.

Should there be a tie at the end of a qualifying round, those players will face off in a 10 frag lightning round – with the winner advancing, and the loser heading to the Losers Bracket.

LOSERS BRACKET

The Losers Bracket is different than the previous round, in that there are only two groups of players battling. Each group will consist of 8 players, who will play through 4 maps again. The 3 players from each group with the most frags accumulated after 4 maps will advance to the Megacup. In the event of a tie, the 10 frag lightning round comes into play once again.

FFA MEGACUP

The FFA Megacup consists of the 8 players who won in the Qualifying Round, along with the 6 that advanced from the Losers Bracket. All 14 players will battle across 10 maps and 4 rounds, culminating in a final 8-player FFA to crown the winner. Each round consists of 2 maps, and at the conclusion of each round players will be eliminated. The round sequence is as follows:

Round 1 (maps 01 – 02): 3 players eliminated
Round 2 (maps 03 – 04): 2 players eliminated
Round 3 (maps 05 – 06): 1 player eliminated
Round 4 (maps 07 – 10): 8-Player FFA Megacup

Following the end of Round 4, the player with the most frags accumulated over all 10 maps will be crowned the champion. Should two or more players tie, a 10-frag lightning round will determine the overall winner.

WDL Winter 2018 / WDL Winter 2018 All-Star Game
« on: March 19, 2018, 09:37:05 AM »
The most electrifying game of ego in all of doom entertainment is back! It is time once again to ignore the real purpose of voting for your fellow players, which is to recognize those who have exhibited all-star level talent throughout the season, and to vote for your bestest of friends evar. Only joking of course.. Winter 2018 had a whirlwind regular season, between 8,345 tie games and some brand new maps to go along with them. By Week 5, every single team in the league was in contention for the playoffs and that doesn't happen without some incredible performances. Your mission, should you accept it, is to determine which players were the most incredible. Let the voting begin!

  • The captains of the #1 (RoSKing) and #2 (Ralphis) seeded teams at the end of the season are the two captains for both All-Star teams.
  • All active players are allowed to vote for 5 different players from any team (excluding the two All-Star captains).
  • After voting has ended, both captains will take turns picking 5 players each from a pool of the top 10 voted players.
  • Each game will be 3v3 and every player is required to play a minimum of two rounds (unless no-shows etc).
  • The maplist is as follows: map01, map06, map12, map29, and map24. All of the maps will be played. At the end of the 5 maps, the total number of flags scored will be used to determine the winner. In the event of a tiebreaker, randmap will be called and that map will be played.
  • The game will be played the week after the Championship match, and voting will be open from March 19th - March 30th.

Odamex Nitro / Looking for dedicated help
« on: January 30, 2018, 09:00:07 AM »
Hello there,

You may remember the fun Odamex Nitro sessions that started in 2011 and have been running off and on in spurts since that time. It has always been a great way to keep people playing Odamex and attracting new members to our community.

Unfortunately as time passes, people have less and less time to dedicate to running events. I've attempted to run the event on my own but things get in the way and I can never be 100% consistent. What we really need is a team of dedicated people to keep Odamex Nitro running for good, and that is what I am looking for.

If you think you would be able to split the duties with myself and a few other people of running this weekly event, please contact me via this thread or on IRC. We should really get Nitro up and running permanently again!

DoomLeague.org News / WDL Winter 2018 Signups Open!
« on: January 22, 2018, 09:46:53 AM »
The ninth season of the World Doom League is officially open for signups!
>> SIGN UP HERE <<

Signups will close Tuesday, February 6th, 2018.

Signups for the ninth WDL season are now open! The first eight seasons have been a huge success thanks to our great community and we hope to continue that into our Winter 2018 season. If you'd like to be a part of the league, it's time to jump on over to the signup thread and put your name down.

If you are unfamiliar with the WDL, read on for more information.

What is the World Doom League?

The WDL is a 3-on-3 CTF league, played on Odamex, and built on tried and true competitive traditions. In the WDL, 4 man teams are built when captains take turns selecting players before the season through what is known as the "draft".

The WDL is currently projected to be composed of six to eight teams. These teams will compete in a "regular season" schedule that allows them to qualify for a playoff tournament, a concept you're surely familiar with if you follow any major professional sport organization. The regular season should last five weeks with an additional two weeks of playoff contention.

The WDL is currently an OPEN league. However, the league reserves the right to deny free agency to select players under certain conditions. Players from 5 continents and over a dozen countries have already played in the league. Those who show a proactive, vested interest in the the league, the game, and the community are most likely to be drafted onto teams.

How can I get involved?

That's simple!

The easiest way to get involved with the WDL is to play Private CTF. Private CTF, or "privs", are organized games of Capture the Flag played on private servers only available to members of the community. Don't worry though, you don't have to sign up for anything to play. All you have to do is visit us on IRC, Discord, or Teamspeak and jump into a game!

The IRC server information for the WDL is as follows:

Server: irc.quakenet.org
Channel: #wdl

The Discord information for the WDL is as follows:
Channel: WDL Discord

The Teamspeak information for the WDL is as follows:
Server: doomleague.org

Will I make it onto a WDL team?

While there is no guarantee that a new player will make it onto an WDL roster, dedication to the game and the apparent will to do well at it will take you a long way in the process of securing a roster spot. Even backups and free agents usually get an opportunity to play in WDL games. Some of CTFs brightest stars have come from stepping up when opportunity called.

Even if you do not secure a spot on a team through the WDL Draft, a continued interest often allows you an opportunity to play during the season by way of a "free agent signing". By receiving and accepting an invite, you are immediately a free agent and can be picked up onto any roster during the season. Some of the league's most notable players got their start like this.

How does the WDL benefit me?

Although some free agents may not make it onto a team, being involved in the WDL community has its benefits. Aside from playing with some of the best CTF players in the world daily, by means of private CTF or WDL league activity, many great friendships have been born out of past endeavors (such as the WDL's predecessor, the IDL).

Leagues like the WDL have gone a long way by uniting once rival doomers and turning them into respected opponents and, more importantly, close friends. The WDL scene could be daunting at first, and most players have to work for in-game recognition, but the bonds within the WDL are some of the closest I've ever seen with over 15+ years in the Doom Community.

So what are you waiting for? Check out the website and forums, and more importantly, come see us on IRC and get ready for the upcoming season!
